The complete list of road sections subject to tolls from 18 February 2022 is set out in Annex 1 of Decree No. 45/2020 (XI.28.) of the Ministry for Innovation and Technology.
To avoid typical user confusion, one of the things to look out for when making a purchase is to make sure that you buy the right vignette for the right toll category. The toll category can be determined on the basis of the official entries in the registration certificate (fields J, F.1 and S.1). The D1 category includes passenger cars (and their trailers) with a maximum permissible gross laden weight of up to 3.5 t and a maximum capacity of 7 persons, and with the code “M1” or “M1G” in box “J” of the registration certificate.
From 1 January 2022, aPlus Consulting Kft. will no longer accept American Express (Amex) cards. Types of credit or debit cards accepted by our company: Master Card, Maestro, Visa, VisaElectron, V-PAY and JCB.
The toll road sections can only be used if you have a valid road use authorisation, i.e. you must obtain the appropriate motorway vignette before driving on them. For purchases within the validity period, the start of validity is always the time of purchase (day/hour/minute). Bona fide road users who have mistakenly driven onto the toll road network have up to 60 minutes from the moment they drive onto the toll road to purchase their road use authorisation.
Toll road sections may only be used with valid road-use authorization, meaning that the appropriate e-vignette must be purchased before entering the toll section. When purchased within the validity period, the vignette becomes valid from the exact moment of purchase (day/hour/minute/second). Good-faith road users who enter the toll road network by mistake have a maximum of 60 minutes from the time of entry to purchase the required authorization.
The control slip or confirmation received after purchase must be kept for 3 years from the last day of validity of the e-vignette.
You can check the current validity of your e-vignette through our online verification platform: https://nemzetiutdij.hu/hu/e-matrica-lekerdezo
The regional vignette is available in D1, D2, B2 and U tariff categories.
The county e-vignette is available in toll categories D1, D2, and U.
If the vehicle belongs to the D1 toll category, you do not need to obtain a separate vignette for the towed trailer. From the beginning of 2019, the authorisation for trailers (U category) of vehicles in the D2 or B2 fee category can also be purchased according to the registration number of the towing vehicle (in addition to the D2 or B2 authorisation). The provision makes it easier for motorists to drive any type of trailer with a U-category e-vignette purchased for the towing vehicle.
If the vehicle belongs to toll category D1, no separate e-vignette is required for the trailer. For vehicles in category D2, starting from early 2019, the trailer toll entitlement (U category) can be purchased for the licence plate of the towing vehicle (in addition to the D2 entitlement). This provides convenience for drivers, as the U-category vignette purchased for the towing vehicle allows them to tow any type of trailer.
Yes. Classification into category D2 is not based on the actual number of passengers or the purpose of travel, but strictly on the data stated in the vehicle registration certificate.
As with the national annual vignette, the validity of the regional vignette runs from the date of purchase until midnight on 31 January of the following year. The only exception to this is for regional vignettes bought in December for the following year, as they are valid from 1 January.
If the licence plate contains an accented letter, you must enter the non-accented English equivalent when purchasing the e-vignette. For example, if the plate contains the letter Ü, you must enter U instead. Enter the licence plate without spaces!
No, no new toll road sections have been added to the e-vignette system as of 1 January 2025.
To avoid common user mistakes, it is important to ensure that the e-vignette is purchased for the correct toll category. The toll category can be determined based on the official entries in the vehicle registration certificate (fields J, F.1 and S.1). In the case of motorhomes, the vehicle type information must also be taken into account. For determining the toll category of motorhomes and caravans, please refer to our category selection guide.
No. If the driver does not request the discounted category in advance and uses the toll road network with a D1 e-vignette while the vehicle belongs to the D2 category, and later initiates registration, all prior road use under the D1 category will be considered unauthorised toll road usage and may result in a surcharge notice.
For a towing vehicle classified in category D2, in addition to the D2 entitlement, it is necessary to purchase the trailer entitlement (U category). Since early 2019, this entitlement can be purchased not only for the trailer but also for the licence plate of the towing vehicle. This regulation provides convenience for drivers, as the U-category e-vignette purchased for the towing vehicle allows them to tow any type of trailer.
Yes. As of 1 January 2024, under the Toll Decree, if a toll-vignette-liable vehicle tows another vehicle, road-use authorisation must be obtained separately for both vehicles in accordance with the applicable rules. This means that each vehicle must have its own appropriate e-vignette. In this context, we draw attention to the fact that under road traffic regulations, a broken-down vehicle being towed on a motorway or expressway must be taken to the nearest exit or junction as soon as possible. A separate surcharge category is introduced for towed vehicles (with the same amount as the D1 surcharge). Responsibility for paying the toll for the towed vehicle remains with the operator of the towing vehicle, meaning that in the event of a surcharge, the operator of the towing vehicle is liable to pay the fee due for the towed vehicle.
In this case, the 60-minute rule also applies. If 60 minutes have not yet passed since entering the toll road network, the valid entitlement must be purchased on-site from the mobile inspection personnel.
During a road closure, traffic restriction or diversion, if vehicles without a valid e-vignette are directed onto a toll section designated as a detour route by the competent authorities (primarily the road operator or police), they may use the toll section – unless otherwise instructed – only from the point where they enter the toll road until the first available junction. If that junction is closed, they may continue to the next open junction. In such cases, no surcharge may be imposed. The authority ordering the closure or diversion informs road users via media channels. If, without a designated detour, a legally authorised traffic management body directs vehicles onto a toll road, the designated toll section may be used without an e-vignette and without a surcharge. Accordingly, during a diversion caused by a road closure or restriction, no toll payment is required, provided the toll section is exited at the next junction.
